Sounds Like Home

I’ve been thinking …

(Reflections from my heart)

Do you remember the comforting sights, sounds and smells of home when you were growing up? I’m recalling kitchen sounds: dishes rattling, silverware jingling, dishwasher humming, a pot bubbling, and sometimes even vegetables burning. Coming home from school sounds: back door closing, “Ma, I’m home” announcing, footsteps creaking, “supper time” calling, “how was your day?” asking. Then bedtime:  teeth brushing, “Now I lay me down to sleep” praying, bed covers tucking, forehead kissing, feeling loved and safe.

I miss those childhood days of peace and security. Now I’m the adult. And life sounds different: worries are calling, bills are rattling, news clattering, body creaking, earth quaking, wars exploding, “what’s going to happen?” asking. It can be a little scary, can’t it?

I’m so very thankful for my precious home and family here. And the Lord has given me great peace. But lately the world seems upside down and broken, and I admit I’m feeling unsettled, even homesick for a better world. The place we were intended for. A place of justice, mercy, love and forgiveness. The place that is being prepared for us. The Father’s House.

I’m on my way to that eternal and perfect Home, but I’m not there yet.

Our Heavenly Home is beautiful. Bathed in brilliant light, color and precious gems– jaster, sapphire, emerald, topaz, amethyst and others. Beyond our imagining.

It is the purple of promise, the jasmine of joy, the pearl of peace, the gold of goodness. It is the fullness of God’s love,  too abundant to measure. And God is there!

The Bible says that one day we will hear a trumpet sounding, and Jesus calling for His children with a shout. He will take us to His Father’s House and in a flash we will be Home, our forever Home. Safe and loved forever with Him. Reunited with loved ones.

Jesus IS coming to gather His children and take us Home. We don’t know when.  And He may be here soon.  We just need to be ready.

Today He is inviting everyone who will to come to Him, tell Him you are sorry for your sins, and trust Him as Savior. With that simple step of faith, you will be adopted into God’s family.

This invitation is open to you today.  It’s so simple, but eternally important. Jesus loves you and He died for you.  He took the punishment for all your sins. Tell Jesus you believe in Him and accept His gift of salvation. He will give you peace for today, even in an upside down world. And hope for tomorrow.

Then one day soon when He comes for us He will call your name too. And we can go Home together.

God’s Simple Plan Of Salvation

For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Therefore encourage one another with these words.

The Bible, 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 16-18

Keep looking up!
