Should We Forget? (For Elisia)

Schroon Lake

By Morton M. Miles (adapted)

It has been said, “We should forget

  The sorrows that we bear;

Let memory fade fast away,

  New life with others share.”

This thought is fine, and may be true

  For sorrows left alone;

But ours is mixed; for happiness

  Our inner hearts have known.

Should we forget the sunshine

  That follows after rain?

Should one forget the joys of birth

  That cometh after pain?

Should we forget the memory

  Of a loved one gone before,

To meet again in future life,

  Beyond the golden shore?

God sent a ray of Sunshine

  Into our lives one day.

It stayed with us for thirteen years,

  And now has gone away.

Our girl has truly known her God.

  We know she’s with him now.

The faith that Christ has given us,

  Sustains us all somehow.

 Her memory will live with us,

  Until in future years.

One by one we’ll join with her,

In the vale beyond the tears.

Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
