Psalm 34:10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
Context: Psalm 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. 7The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. 8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
From the lexicon: Lack=are poor, in want. Hunger=are famished. Seek=calls on. Good thing=beneficial thing.
Pulling it together: The Psalms so often speak about God’s faithfulness to those who seek Him. In verse one of Psalm 34, the Psalmist pledges to praise God at all times, reminding us of 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks. In Psalm 34:4 and in verse 6 the writer proclaims he has prayed and God answers, reminding us of 1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing. In Psalm 34:10 We see God’s promise for provision. The Psalmist declares, “Though lions go hungry God provides for His faithful, holding back nothing that is beneficial to us.”This agrees with Philippians 4:19 which states: And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Does that mean that the believer will never miss a meal? No. Note the verse in Psalms says God will hold back no good thing. Romans 8:28 reminds us that things we don’t see as good, God is using them for our benefit. We will have adversity, but God will never leave nor forsake His child (Hebrews 13:5). We have this assurance that the world does not have.
Lord, I thank You for all the good things You have provided me. I pray for the grace of having no fear that I will suffer lack.
