2 Samuel 7:22 Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
Context: 2 Samuel 7:18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD and said, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? Vv. 20-21 And what more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Lord GOD! 21Because of your promise, and according to your own heart, you have brought about all this greatness, to make your servant know it.
From the lexicon: Great= great in power. None=naught. Beside=except, only.
Pulling it together: Nathan, the prophet came before David and pronounced God’s promises toward this king. David then responded with what is recorded in the above verses. He humbles himself recognizing it is by God’s favor he has been able to accomplish what he has done, and by God’s favor, these promises would be fulfilled. He concludes, What more can your servant say? You know your servant and it’s because of Your promises all this has come about. V. 22 You are great in power, Lord. There is no God but you. And God blessed David according to his confession.
Today, we live in a world, that as according to Romans 1:21, … knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. The denial of God is all around us. Pseudo-science explains man’s existence without need for there to be a Creator. God’s righteousness is overturned. What God declared as evil, man now calls good., And those attempting to live by God’s standard are declared as intolerant and worthy of being silenced. But God still blesses those who honor Him, if we but keep our eyes on Him.
Lord, I pray for grace to not forget You or the power of Your might.
