At The Door

Revelation 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Context: Revelation 3:18, 19 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see. 19Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Revelation 3:21 The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.

From the lexicon: Behold= take note.    Stand=place oneself.   Door=entrance.   Knock=strike.   Hear=listens to.     Voice=cry.   Sup=dine.

Pulling it together: In Revelation 3:20 Jesus pleads to whoever will listen. He has placed himself at the doors of their hearts. He seeks entrance and promises to dine–have fellowship with those who will receive him. A few things stand out in this verse. First, it is Jesus doing the knocking on the door. We don’t seek Him, He seeks us.

Second, it is necessary to listen–to hear His plea. So, much in this world seeks to drown out His voice, but if we stop and hear the most important call in our lives–His voice pleading to us.

Third, we must open the door and invite Him in. He is ready to restore to us full fellowship with God, but we must receive Him. The rest follows–the white garment of righteousness, eye salve so we may see and receive true heavenly riches. We become overcomers fit to sit with Jesus on His throne.

Lord, I pray for grace to know this truth and to listen to Your voice and open to You the throne of my heart.
