Psalm 62:7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Context: Psalm 62:1-2 For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.2He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.
From the lexicon: Salvation=deliverance. Rock=flat rock-foundation. Strength=might. Glory=honor. Refuge=shelter.
Pulling it all together: Psalm 62 repeats this thought that God alone is our deliverer, our strength, and our refuge. Trials and tribulations may come our way and circumstances box us into a corner where we seem to have no escape, but the truth rings out. In God there is deliverance. We need not fear. Trust in the One Who promises to never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
No doubt we are and will be tested on this. Hardships come. Relationships break down. People run into conflict with us. We fail to see how finances will work out. Like the giants of old, the enemy of our souls wants to keep us from realizing the truth that whatever life throws at us God is present and working everything toward our benefit (Romans 8:28). The truth is we cannot overcome the adverse circumstances alone. And when we try on our own we only spin our gears trying to handle what God has not intended us to handle without Him. But He is on our side. Faith is stepping aside trusting Him to do as He says.
Lord, I pray for grace to keep my mind on You, walking in Your presence, believing Your promises. When hard times come and I am tempted to feel I have nowhere to turn, I pray You to quiet my heart before You and for the grace of faith to trust Your promises and to look for your deliverance.
