Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Context: Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
From the lexicon: Wait=eagerly wait in expectation and hope. Courage=be bold, stout, strong.
Pulling it together: Psalm 27:14 is the conclusion of perhaps the most beloved psalm of encouragement. The psalm begins by declaring that since the Lord is the psalmist’s light and deliverer there is nobody or anything, he needs to be afraid of. When darkness threatens to overtake us, God lights the way. When fears overwhelm us, His Word reminds us the battle is not ours (2 Chronicles 20:15).
We inflict so much pain upon ourselves when we attempt to take on our problems in our own strength. Our verse above admonishes us to wait–cease from our own efforts and to do so expectantly, hopefully, trusting that God has it all covered. Things may not go according to our will and the distress that follows is due to the fact we are not trusting in His promise that all things work together for the good for those who love Him and are called to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
And so, our Heavenly Father calls us to wait for Him expectantly in these days of turmoil. Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (Titus 2:13).
Lord, I pray for grace to lay all my worries, doubts, and fears at the foot of the Cross and to come boldly before the throne of grace and obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
