Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Context: Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding…v.7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
Lexicon: Ways=journey. Acknowledge=know. Paths=course. (from v.5– Trust=throw one down upon his face before.)
Proverbs 3:5,6, and seven are one thought. Trust in the Lord. The connotation is that we lay ourselves before Him, putting ourselves in His hands. But to trust Him we need to know Him–His heart, mind, and will. When I know Him, I can love Him. To do anything less is to depend on our own understanding which is limited at best and flawed by sin. When I seek God, He gives me the grace to understand things as they really are, opens my eyes, and enables me to navigate through life’s difficulties. Google occasionally will send us the wrong direction down a one-way street, but God’s directions are always true. We will never go awry following them as we find them in His Word. Verse 7 continues the thought warning us to not overestimate our own wisdom. To do so is to put ourselves in the place of God, setting our understanding over His. This is the sin of pride setting ourselves up to decide what is right and wrong.
Lord, I pray for grace to trust you in all that I do, and for grace to see things clearly. I pray I may know Your heart and Your will so that I may do right.
