Daniel Takes a Stand

Daniel 2:20-21 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

Context: Daniel 2:19, 23 19Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.  23To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king’s matter.”

From the lexicon: Change=alter.   Time=moment.   Season=epoch. Remove=pass on or away.   Esteblishes=causes to stand.  Knowledge= the power of knowing.

In other words: Daniel 2:20-21—Daniel answered the king saying, “Blessed-praise to God continually. All wisdom-knowledge- and might-power- belong to Him. He alters what is to come. He deposes and installs kings. He gives wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to the wise.

Pulling it together: Daniel was in a fix. He had been placed in the class of wise men in the nation of Babylon. The king had a disturbing dream which he could not recall and expected his advisors to tell him what it was and to interpret it. When they said they could not, he placed the order that the whole class of wise men be exterminated. This included Daniel.

But Daniel trusted God for the dream and its interpretation and appearing before the king pronounced the above proclamation. God was the only true God and He alone is in control. The king was so only because God placed him there.

This was not a politically correct thing to do in a country where kings were highly exalted and that worshiped other gods than the true one. Daniel risked death surely as he did by saying nothing. But God protected him and the name of God was proclaimed above all others.

We live in a world that seems racing out of control. It is not popular to proclaim the Gospel as the only way. We need Daniels to make a stand.

Lord, I pray for grace to be strong in my faith to make a stand for You.
