Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Context: Psalm 34:6-7 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him -and saved him out of all his troubles. 7The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
From the lexicon: Taste=examine by tasting. See=perceive. Good=pleasant, agreeable. Blessed=being blessed. Trusts=takes refuge.
Pulling it together: Psalm 34:8 encourages us to taste, i.e., examine God as one would taste a new food dish. Try Him and see that He is good and bestows blessings on those who trust-take refuge-rely on Him to deliver from their adversities.
We all want to be blessed. This verse gives trust as a condition for God’s blessings. Trusting God with our very lives places us in the position of having our arms open wide to receive God’s best for us. Trust is the key to having real lasting peace. It comes as we take all that besets us and leave it at the foot of the Cross.
The writer of Hebrews put it this way in chapter 11, verse 6: And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Faith-trusting God to do as He says leads to God rewarding that faith-trust. What blessings are lost when we will not come to Him in faith-trusting Him to fulfill His promises.
Lord, I pray for grace to love You enough to trust You and to trust You enough to love You.
