Psalm 42:11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Context: Psalm 42:1 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. Psalm 42:9-10 I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”10As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
From the lexicon: Cast down=in despair. Disquieted=disturbed, murmuring. Hope=wait for. Praise=give thanks, laud. Health=deliverance.
Pulling it together: Why should I let circumstances become the enemy of my soul and bring me down? God is my hope and salvation. I am His child, and He has promised never to leave nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). His promises are true. When I am discouraged it is because I have taken my eyes off of the One Who gave His Son for me at Calvary.
Circumstances whisper, “Where is your God?” But in His Word, God reminds me of His love. When I listen to circumstances, I turn a blind eye to how much He loves me. He does not give a spirit of fear and dread, but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
Lord, I pray for grace to seek after You no matter what comes my way. I pray for grace to trust Your love for me.
