It’s Monday!

Some thoughts on a Monday in mid-January,

by Nancy Miles

As I write this, we are halfway through Monday, half-way through January, almost halfway through winter (unless you, like me, live in the great Northeast. But we are still making progress! ). How are you all doing?

Personally, I am gathering my forces and my resolve to navigate this week with a positive attitude. If Covid, political unrest, riots, and the general uncertainty of these times has taught me anything, it is to take one day, or even one hour or minute at a time. To start and end each day grounded in what I KNOW is true. To pause, look up and pray often and urgently. To love and to forgive myself and others. To be kind. To cherish the gift of today, and life, love, and freedom.

I did grab my coffee this morning. But before that I grabbed my Bible and journal. I found peace there. And courage and wisdom to navigate whatever comes next. This is what I read:

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Matthew 5:9

And so we step into a new week. My story and yours is being written daily as we push into this Monday and beyond. The fact is, most of my circumstances are outside of my control. But I can choose to be fearful, angry and frustrated, or to inhale truth. To hold onto grudges or to forgive and pray for my enemies. To wring my hands or place my trust in a good God who’s not surprised by coming events. Who IS in control. Who offers me peace with Himself and with others. And Who has my back– yesterday, today and every tomorrow.

So, on this cold, gray, midwinter Monday I am hope-filled. God has a perfect plan that is in motion. I choose to look up and trust Him.
