Finding Grace

Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Context: Genesis 6:5-7The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

From the lexicon: Found=attained   Grace=favor.

Pulling it together: Noah, a righteous man (Genesis 6:9) lived in an extremely difficult time. Wickedness reigned upon the earth and no doubt tore at his soul. The world around him raced toward judgment, but God took mercy on this man and his family and provided a way for them to escape the coming destruction.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Great destruction faces the people of this earth who refuse to honor their Creator and to live according to their own devices. Even now, what has been declared sin in Scripture has been codified as the law of the land. Those that stand in opposition are labeled as bigots full of prejudice and risk society’s condemnation. The pressure upon believers to conform has never been greater as once again in human history man rushes toward judgment that will come when Jesus returns to this earth.

But as in the day of Noah, God offers grace. Noah obeyed His call, built, and entered the ark. God has provided a way of escape for us at Calvary. Romans 10:13 declares “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Lord, I pray for grace of strength to stand firm in this hour of temptation keeping my eyes on the Christ Who died for my sins at Calvary.
