Today, I just want to look up.
To a place above the clatter of my thoughts. Higher than the clamor inside my head and outside my door. To a place beyond my understanding. Where I can loosen my grip and surrender control of situations, people and things. Where I can slip my hand into the hand of One Who loves me and understands my thoughts and intents. Who knows me inside and out.
Heck, He made me after all! And He loves me like crazy.
And He loves you too.
I admit I was feeling weary this morning. Not tired, just soul-weary.
I determine to start each day with a Quiet Time, a time of Bible reading and personal prayer, a daily habit I learned in childhood. As usual, this morning I settled into my favorite chair to read the Scripture for the day. So many things racing through my mind. My to do list… cleaning, baking a pie (a huge challenge to me!), appointments, phone calls, exercise. My concerns about family, church family, friends. The future. You get the picture!
I opened my Bible to the passage for the day, and these verses began speaking to my weary spirit. I began focusing on God’s steadfast love. His forever, lasting, steady and sure love. And this brought healing and peace to my soul.
The verses I read are written below. I pray they will be a blessing to you, on this Thanksgiving, and on every tomorrow. Meditate on His goodness and love. He’s got this. Really. And He’s got your back, and mine. He is waiting for you to come to Him. Just as you are.
On this eve of Thanksgiving, before we give thanks, let’s remember Who we are thanking. For a few minutes, let’s just focus on Him. Lock eyes on His, or bow before Him. His love is steadfast. We can stand on that. It’s going to be OK.
Let’s choose to rise above the chaos. And then we can truly give thanks to the One who has blessed us.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Tell of His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and He is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.
1 Chronicles 16:23-27
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “THE LORD REIGNS!”
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for He comes to judge the earth.
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, FOR HIS STEADFAST LOVE ENDURES FOREVER!
1 Chronicles 16:31-34
