For In the time of trouble He shall hide thee in His pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me, He shall set me upon a rock.
Context: Psalm 27:1 The lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear…Psalm 27:4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…Psalm 27:6 And now my head shall be lifted above all my enemies…
From the lexicon: Trouble=misery, distress, evil; Hide=keep, treasure; Secret of His tabernacle=hiding place; rock=high place
Pulling it together: God is my light and salvation. When distress comes, I need not fear. The psalmist sought to dwell in God’s tabernacle or dwelling. God invites me to live in His presence. He cares for me as one secures a treasure in a secret hiding place. As I seek to dwell in His presence, He lifts me up, giving victory over all my enemies that would bring me down including whatever seeks to separate me from His great love and the blessings He bestows on those who dwell close to Him.
Hebrews 13:5 continues the thought that God has promised never to leave or forsake me. I can depend on Him. Our enemy may roar as a lion but cannot touch me as long as I dwell in my Father’s presence.
Prayer: Lord, grant me the grace to dwell in Your presence–to put away my doubts, fears, sinful desires, and whatever else threatens to break my fellowship with You.
