Pray Don’t Panic

When faced with an overwhelming situation, did you ever say to yourself, “All I can do is pray.” ? Maybe someone is stricken with a serious illness, or a child is in trouble, or there are more bills than money at the end of the month. We want to control the situation . We may have tried our darndest to work out our own solution, or even turned to our favorite diversion, hoping it would all just go away. But the sun rises and there it is, sitting right there with us for another day. Finally, we reach the end of our resources, our worry bag is overflowing, and our bag of options is empty. And then we may say with a tone of resignation, “All I can do is pray.” As if we were waving a white flag of surrender. To the circumstance.

Prayer is powerful. The most powerful tool we have. Not because it is a magic ritual that in itself will bring us power. But because it connects us to the most powerful Being in the universe, our Creator God. He loves us and He wants to hear our prayers. He sits on his Heavenly Throne and waits for us to come to him. And maybe He often wonders what is taking us so long.

The Bible says we can come boldly to God’s Throne of Grace. Because of Jesus. If you are a Jesus-follower and have asked Him into your life, you have this access. And if you ‘re tongue-tied and don’t know what to say, no problem! The Spirit of God who is within you prays for you!

It’s like God thought of everything. And He has.

So today when you turn on the news, or toss and turn with anxious thoughts, look up and pray. Do it FIRST. Step into the throne room. The door is open. Trust in the power and goodness of God. Find peace.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
